At its recent Annual General Meeting held last night (Wednesday, 29 November 2023), the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Board addressed its members and paid tribute to outgoing Board member, Vukani Dlamini.
CMA Chairperson Mqondisi Ngcobo acknowledged the great work carried out by respective members of the CMA Board and the immense role of the Race Organising Committee and other volunteers in contributing to the success of The Ultimate Human Race.
In compliance with the CMA Constitution, the Annual General Meeting saw the appointment of one new member to the Board, namely:
Nontuthuko Mashimane
And the re-appointment of three members, namely:
Kerwin Basson
Isaac Ngwenya
Zinhle Sokhela
The Board appointment process was overseen by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
With the CMA being founded as an Association, the main function of the Board is corporate governance, the formulation of the strategic policies of the organisation and ensuring the sustainability of The Ultimate Human Race. Importantly, the Board is further tasked with retaining the world-class standards, ethos and traditions that are synonymous with this iconic event.
Mqondisi Ngcobo will continue to serve as Chairperson while Les Burnard will serve as the Vice Chairperson. The complete CMA Board is therefore as follows:
