Kaizer Chiefs initially set their sights on Fawaaz Basadien as their primary left-back target, but their efforts to secure him from Stellenbosch FC proved unsuccessful.

Despite making another attempt in January, Basadien remained committed to Stellenbosch, having signed a four-year contract extension. His long-term deal made negotiations difficult, particularly during the transfer window.

Basadien has been one of South Africa’s standout footballers this season, delivering seven goals and eight assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. His ability to balance attacking contributions with defensive stability has been crucial for Stellenbosch, helping the team maintain several clean sheets.

Recent reports suggest that Basadien is now set to join Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

With Basadien out of reach, Chiefs have turned their attention to alternative options. According to sources, they are now monitoring Nkanyiso Shinga, a left-back playing in Portugal. However, convincing him to leave may be challenging, as his team has just been promoted to the top flight.

"The positive side is that his contract is expiring at the end of the season," a source confirmed*. "But he is a key player for his club, and they may offer him a new deal."

Chiefs continue their search for a left-back solution as they prepare for the upcoming season.
