Nominees Announced Ahead of ASA Elections

A total of 46 candidates have been nominated to stand for positions on the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Board at the federation's elections taking place on 31 May 2025 at 10am.

Leading the nominations during the Quadrennial General Meeting at the Garden Court OR Tambo hotel at Isando, Kempton Park in Johannesburg, are five individuals who will contest the position of President.

They include incumbent president James Moloi, former President Aleck Skhosana, former Vice-President Harold Adams, Athletics Gauteng North President John Mathane and current Vice-President Shireen Noble.

For the position of Vice-President, the race has five candidates which include Noble, Mathane, Adams, Steve Mkasi, Karabo Mabilo and Sticks Stiglingh.

For the commission chairperson posts, five people have been nominated to lead the Athletes Commission, including long-distance runners Gladwin Mzazi and Kesa Molotsane, former sprinters Hendrick Mokganyetsi (current chairperson) and Tsholofelo Thipe, and former Comrades Marathon champion Ludwick Mamabolo.

There are four nominees for the Chairperson of the Cross Country Commission. They are Jakes Jacobs (current chairperson), Mmatli Theletsane, Rene Coetzee and Norma Nonkonyana.

Road Running Commission candidates are Enoch Skosana and Mike Mbambani.

For the Track and Field Commission, the candidates are Jean Verster (current Chairperson, Pieter Lourens (former Chairperson), Mokganyetsi and Odessa Swarts.

There are 27 candidates for Additional Board Member positions who have been nominated. They are Swarts, Mokganyetsi, Boyce Joko, Adams, Esther Malema (current Member), Farouk Meyer, Fundiswa Hlobo, Johanita Bester, Mathane, Leon Bannau, Mamosa Thamae, Mandla Mngomezulu, Mike Masepe, Neo Maxambela, Nontathu Gwadiso (current Member).

There's also Nonkonyana (current Member), Ntebaleng Mofedi, Ntombokhanyo Songhane, Phatasia Laban Khomo, Coetzee, Richard Bilisi Rambiyana, Seipati Adelina Ranthimo (current Member), Noble, Sibongile Nxumalo, Sicelo Pongoma, Stiglingh, Tracy Olivier, Tshifhiwa Makhosi and Violet Khumalo.

There are also 22 people who have been nominated for the Vice-Chairperson posts of the four commissions (track and field, cross country, road running and athletes), and 69 individuals have been nominated for additional positions in those various commissions.
