Tebello Ramakongoana and Neheng Khatala excel at the Hollywood Durban 10km

Durban: The 4th edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km lived up to its thrilling success as one of South Africa's most exciting road races. This year the race had an impressive prize purse with an attraction of top international athletes competing for the title. Athletes and spectators gathered at the Kings Park Outer Fields on Sunday, 29 September, for an event that truly delivered fireworks.


The men's field was packed with talent, including the likes of Stephen Mokoka, Elroy Gelant, Kabelo Mulaudzi, Matthews Leeto, and Piet Wiersma. The competition was fierce, and right from the start, it was clear that no one could easily predict the winner. Defending champion Kabelo Mulaudzi had challenging competition to try and retain his title, but it was Lesotho Olympian Tebello Ramakongoana who ultimately crossed the finish line first. This victory solidified his status as a top runner, adding another triumph to his already illustrious career.


In the women's race, Cian Oldknow, the pre-race favourite, faced a tough battle with Tayla Kavanagh, Neheng Khatala, and Cacisile Sosibo. The competition was intense, with each runner determined to make their mark. However, Hollywood Athletics Club runner, Neheng Khatala showed exceptional resilience and tactical prowess, pulling ahead in the final stretch to claim victory.


Race organizers hailed the event as a massive success, with runners putting on a spectacular show and putting it all on the line for the R37 500.00 prize purse. Thousands of spectators lined the route, adding to the electric atmosphere and supporting the athletes as they pushed themselves to their limits.

The Hollywoodbets Durban 10km has become a must-attend event on the road running calendar, drawing not only elite athletes but also inspiring the next generation of runners. This excitement will continue in Johannesburg on Saturday, 15 November 2024, when the race makes its debut in the City of Gold, with plans to expand to other provinces, spreading the Purple Team spirit nationwide.
