South Africa’s biggest one day race promises to be the best yet
The People’s Race is officially SOLD OUT with 25 000 runners set to take the streets on 3 November. Returning to Nasrec, Soweto, the 29th edition promises something for everyone whether you’re a first-time jogger or an Elite targeting the valued first prize purse of R250 000. The race promises a cleaner route, an unrivalled vibe and a safe and enjoyable experience for runners, supporters and the valued residents of the route.
The route remains the same, treasuring the eight significant heritage sites on the marathon route; including the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital; Walter Sisulu Square; the Regina Mundi Catholic Church; Credo Mutwa Cultural Village; Morris Isaacson High School and June 16 Memorial Acre; Vilakazi Street and the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
The exhibition is open all of Saturday (08h30 – 18h00), however in light of potential traffic congestion, runners are strongly advised to gather their race packs before 14h00 on Saturday.
Soweto Marathon spokesperson Thokozani Mazibuko says that the race is ready to deliver an exceptional experience to all those present this Sunday;
“We are thrilled with the support received thus far and promise an exceptional race! We encourage runners to tap into the hype and excitement surrounding the event: Your race packs are ready, the road is ready, and our race office is ready. We certainly hope you are ready for your race day – we look forward to hosting you!”
With the cap reached of 25 000 participants, the race is officially closed for entries, but organisers encourage all from far and wide to take to the streets on Sunday and celebrate our beautiful country and the gift of running.
