Ten world champions from last year’s event in Oregon will return to compete for the US team at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 between 19-27 August.
Valarie Allman, Brooke Andersen, Ryan Crouser, Chase Ealey, Grant Holloway, Fred Kerley, Noah Lyles, Katie Moon, Athing Mu and Michael Norman will defend their titles when they form part of the 139-strong squad in Budapest. USA topped the medal table at the last edition of the championships on home soil and 82 athletes from that team are back on the world stage, including 23 individual medallists.
The squad boasts four athletes in 10 of the disciplines, thanks to wild card places. Those disciplines include the men’s shot put, in which all three medallists from Oregon return, as well as the men’s 100m, 200m, 400m and 110m hurdles, plus the women’s 800m, pole vault, shot put, discus and hammer.
Lyles, who is the 200m world leader with his time of 19.47 from July, is entered for the 100m and 200m, as is Sha'Carri Richardson in the women’s events. World 400m hurdles record-holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has chosen to focus on the 400m flat.
