With less than two months to go until the Millrose Games, organisers of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting have revealed the first big names for the competition in New York on Sunday 11 February.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the world high jump champion indoors and outdoors, will be competing in New York for the first time. The 22-year-old Ukrainian has an indoor PB of 2.06m, putting her equal third on the world indoor all-time list. The Olympic bronze medallist ended her 2023 season on a high in the US, clearing a world-leading 2.03m at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene.
Two-time world champion Danielle Williams will headline the 60m hurdles. The Jamaican has twice competed indoors in New York before, winning both times. In 2022 she held the world indoor leading time of 7.75.
World 1500m champion Josh Kerr returns to the Millrose Games after winning the 3000m at the last edition in a meeting record of 7:33.47. The Briton, who last weekend set a half marathon PB of 1:01:51, will this time contest the two miles.
USA’s Yared Nuguse will once again contest the Wanamaker Mile after winning last year in a North American indoor record of 3:47.38, the second-fastest indoor performance in history. After setting an outdoor North American mile record in September, Nuguse will take aim at Yomif Kejelcha’s world indoor record of 3:47.01.
