Prize Purse deeper than ever with rewards for 4th and 5th place finishers introduced Course record incentives introduced, with rewards for overall record and South African record
The Otter TERREX Trail presented by EasyEquities continues its evolution as one of the most sought-after trail marathons on the calendar. What began as a proudly South African event has grown into a global gathering of elite athletes and passionate adventurers, drawn not only by the technical challenge but also by the extraordinary landscape and spirited trail community that define the Otter experience.
The support of our title partner, adidas TERREX, and presenting partner, EasyEquities, has played a key role in that evolution, helping us attract world-class athletes while staying true to the race’s unique character. In 2025, EasyEquities is stepping up to raise the stakes once more. With deeper podium rewards, recognition for top-five finishers, and new record bonuses, the Otter honours not just those chasing the top step of the podium but all athletes bold enough to test their limits on this iconic course.
2025 Prize Money: Deeper Than Ever
While the top-three prize structure remains unchanged from 2024, the 2025 Otter TERREX Trail, presented by EasyEquities, introduces deeper prize money payouts, rewarding 4th and 5th place finishers for the first time in the race’s history.
Here’s how the new prize purse stacks up:

All prize amounts include a matched investment component from EasyEquities, giving winners both a short-term reward and a long-term financial boost.

Bonus Payouts for Record Breakers
Beyond podium placements, record-breakers have more incentive than ever:
South African course records will earn an additional R30,000 (R15,000 cash + R15,000 investment).
Overall course records will be rewarded with a R60,000 bonus (R30,000 cash + R30,000 investment).
So, what are the times to beat?
In the Classic direction (the one we’re running this year), the men’s overall course record is 3:59:29, set by Switzerland’s Marc Lauenstein in 2015. The men’s South African record stands at 4:02:59, set by Johardt van Heerden in 2019.
On the women’s side, Bianca Tarboton holds both the overall and South African course records, with a time of 4:45:35, set in 2021.
Driven by Partnerships That Last the Distance
"EasyEquities doesn’t just sponsor the Otter Trail Run - we live it. This iconic event is a highlight on our team’s calendar - a celebration of grit, resilience and the sheer thrill of the journey. Trail running, like investing, is all about pushing boundaries, embracing challenges and celebrating each step forward. EasyEquities is here for the long run - because being part of this community isn’t just a commitment, it’s a privilege and part of who we are,” says Carel Nolte, Chief Marketing Officer for EasyEquities.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 edition of the Otter TERREX Trail, presented by EasyEquities, will once again test the grit of top trail runners. With prize money extending to the top five finishers and new bonuses for record-breaking performances, the race continues to reward both excellence and determination. So the question remains: will we see records fall in 2025?
