Olympic champion Rai Benjamin is set to compete in the men's 400m hurdles at the ninth Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season, taking place at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 5.
Returning to the site of his 2023 Diamond League title triumph, Benjamin will aim to defend his crown after an impressive season. He secured his first Diamond Trophy at the Eugene final in 2023, setting a meeting record of 46.39.
Heading into the 2025 competition as the favorite, Benjamin has built on his success with dominant performances in major events. He clinched Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay at the Paris Games last August, following a decisive victory over rivals Karsten Warholm and Alison Dos Santos at the Monaco Diamond League meeting.
Now ranked as the world’s second-fastest man in the discipline behind Warholm, Benjamin continues his pursuit of a world title and the elusive world record in 2025.
The Wanda Diamond League remains the premier one-day athletics series, featuring 15 of the most prestigious track and field events. Athletes compete in 14 meetings to qualify for the grand finale in Zurich, scheduled for August 27-28, 2025.
