Jamaican sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is set to kick off her 2025 Wanda Diamond League campaign in Doha on May 16, while reigning Diamond Trophy holder Matthew Denny begins his discus title defense.

Fraser-Pryce, a five-time Diamond League champion and three-time Olympic gold medalist, will race in the women's 100m, aiming for her third victory at the Doha Diamond League after previous wins in 2014 and 2021. The legendary sprinter, who holds more global sprint titles than any other athlete, comes into the event in strong form after clocking 10.94s (+3.1m/s) in Kingston on April 19.

Expressing her excitement about returning to Doha, Fraser-Pryce emphasized her commitment to inspiring the next generation. "Doha holds a special place in my heart, and I’m truly excited to return for this year’s Diamond League. Every race is an opportunity, and I’m committed to making each one count," she said.

The event will also feature a formidable men’s discus competition, headlined by Denny, Kristjan Čeh, and Daniel Ståhl. Denny, the reigning champion, has secured the Diamond Trophy for the past two seasons, while Čeh won the title in 2022 after dethroning Ståhl, who had held it for two years.

The Wanda Diamond League remains the pinnacle of global athletics, featuring 15 of the most prestigious track and field events. Across 14 meetings, athletes vie for points to qualify for the grand finale in Zurich, set for August 27-28, 2025.
